In partnership with the Canadian cancer society
Last year
Through the four sporting events in the rivalry series, we generated ~$23,000 in support of a Canadian Cancer Society Grant.
This grant supported Dr. Alison Allan, a researcher at Western University. Her research involves designing a special blood test to detect how many sites cancer has spread to, working to increase survival and potentially even cure some people with minimally metastatic cancer.
We would like to thank everyone who attended games in the series and donated through the fundraising pages, without you this donation wouldn’t have been possible.
THIS YEAR
All proceeds from our events go towards a Canadian Cancer Society grant to the research of Dr. Anargyros Xenocostas of the London Health Sciences Centre Research Inc.
Dr. Xenocostas’ research uses robotics to test dozens of drugs on cells from people with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), aiming to identify the most effective therapeutic options for AML patients .
This team is optimizing drug testing to prevent the relapse of AML patients. Building on their previous work, the researchers will enroll 25 people with AML to donate their leukemia cells. The team will then use robotic techniques to quickly test more than 30 potentially beneficial drugs for these patients.
If successful, this study could provide more personalized treatment for people with AML and get them closer to remission, where they will be eligible for stem cell transplantation to control their leukemia over the long term.
